About

My name is Charlie Hudson and I run an aikido class in Bath, Maine. I began aikido at Vassar College under sensei Sean Flynn, and, for one year, Shishida shihan. I’ve had the good fortune to travel to Japan a number of times both to study and compete. After graduation I spent two years in Japan teaching English and studying both Tomiki aikido and traditional Aikikai.

Here in Bath we train at Hall’s Olympic Martial Arts as part of the larger Midcoast Aikido Club. We’ve been very lucky to be able to train with fellow Vassar Alums Eric and Janine, who spent several months training full time at the Shodokan Honbu dojo in Osaka, and have studied widely in the martial arts.

We try to do a lot of experimenting in class, and I want to use this blog to give people a taste of the kinds of things we’ve been playing with. I hope you find it interesting.

If you’re in the area come and check us out! Practices are held on Mondays and Wednesday evenings from 7:30 – 9:15 and there are other Midcoast Aikido classes Thursday at 7:30 and Sunday at 9am.

  2. Jere from Dublin Tomiki Aikido here.

I visited your very informative Aiki website today and am reading through your articles with interest. I noticed you have an international links section on the right hand column. I would be very grateful if you would consider listing our new online resource http://WWW.TOMIKIAIKIDO.IE there

We are Ireland’s youngest Shodokan/Tomiki Aikido Club and have a new website up and running but need help to get it noticed in Google somehow.

We appreciate any help you can provide…. Many thanks in advance 🙂

    • Hi Jere, my aikido activities and blogging have been on a hiatus for a while so I’m not sure how much traffic you’ll get from it, but I’ll add the link. Good luck growing the club!
