A “Fixation Problem”

In this video I talk about how the things you learn from very soft styles of practice can carry over to randori, and I use a moment from the 2012 TAA Nationals to illustrate my point. Having looked at the technique numerous times during the editing I have to say that I think Warren should have gotten a yuko for it (it didn’t score at all) but at any rate there was plenty of room for improvement.

I’d be interested to know if people think my analysis of the technique jibes with what you see in the video. I will say this: in the moment this sure FELT like a circular fixation problem.

As I said, I don’t mean to pick on Warren at all, I’ve had the exact same problem countless countless times, but this was a memorable example that happened to be caught on video.
